American Heart Association Training Programs

Adult & Child CPR
This course teaches the one-person techniques of adult & child (ages 1+) CPR and how to help a choking victim. Class will cover the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke, when to start and when to stop CPR, disease transmission and legalities. Textbooks can be purchased before, during, or after any of our American Heart Association courses.  

Ages: 12+.
Time to complete:  2 hours
Certification card:  Valid 2 years

Health Care Provider CPR
This course will cover all of the above topics. In addition, you will learn the two-rescuer technique and how to use airway-ventilating devices, and how to operate your company AED. Successful completion of a written test is required. Textbooks can be purchased before, during, or after any of our American Heart Association courses. An American Heart Association course participation card valid for two years will be issued from our offices after the class. This class is appropriate for aspiring EMTs, employees of health care facilities, and firefighters.

Ages: 16+.
Time to complete:  4-6 hours
Certification card:  Valid 2 years


AHA Instructor Courses
The steps to becoming an American Heart Association instructor are:
   1.  Successfully complete an AHA Healthcare Provider course
   2.  Locate an AHA Training Center (TC) that is accepting new instructors
   3.  Affiliate with that TC and get their written recommendation to the Core Instructor Training Course
   4.  Successfully complete the AHA Core Instructor Course and the BLS/Heartsaver Instructor Module (2 day course)
   5.  Get monitored by an AHA TC and recommended for instructor status

Ages: 18+.
Time to complete:  2 days

Basic CPR and First Aid for Adults
MEDIC FIRST AID Basic is an adult CPR and first aid training program designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider. Pediatric First Aid and CPR
MEDIC FIRST AID Pediatric is a child, infant, and adult CPR and first aid emergency medical response-training program. This program follows the skills and instructional methodology of our cornerstone CPR/first aid-training program, MEDIC FIRST AID Basic. Pediatric teaches appropriate emergency response skills and prevention strategies for the care of infants and children. Adult care techniques are also included.

This class is approved by the California State Daycare Licensing division to issue stickers that we affix to your card. The fee is $6 for both stickers (CPR & first aid), which can be paid at class.

Blood borne Pathogen Program
The MEDIC FIRST AID Blood borne Pathogens program is designed to train employees who have a significant health risk of occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious bodily fluids and materials. This training will help employees satisfy training requirements put forth by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)..

Emergency Care (First Aid segments only)
The MEDIC FIRST AID Emergency Care training program is designed to train individuals and corporations that require training in basic first aid skills. This program will provide first aid training to students, giving them the skills necessary to manage illnesses and injuries until the arrival of EMS. Emergency Care is designed to complement cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in order to meet OSHA requirements for first aid training in the workplace.

Emergency Oxygen Training
With the MEDIC FIRST AID Emergency Oxygen Supplement, the trained first aid provider will learn the importance of introducing oxygen as an integral part of the care provided for an ill or injured patient. Supplying emergency oxygen helps meet the ill or injured patient’s critical need for oxygen. When illness or injury reduces the body’s ability to process oxygen, shock will soon occur, unless the effects of the decreased amount of oxygen in the blood can be reversed.

MFA Instructor Training
For those new to emergency care training, the five-step instructor certification process outlined below will get you started. If you are a current health care provider, such as an EMT, First Responder, or if you have CPR/first aid training, you can skip Step Two.

Step One
Call our office at 916/939-2277 and ask to start your MEDIC FIRST AID Instructor Training Process.  

Step Two
We will get you scheduled into one of our MEDIC FIRST AID classes.  The fee for this class is included in your New Instructor training fee.  You will need to successfully complete student-level training for each program you wish to teach. This will provide you with an understanding of the course content and the physical skills necessary to be able to perform effective emergency care. 

Step Three
Select which courses you wish to provide.  Call us to order your programs.

Step Four
Familiarize yourself in the comfort of your home with our Instructor Self-Study Guide and video. These materials will explain the nuts and bolts of the MEDIC FIRST AID instructional design and various administrative issues. Condensing this traditional classroom-based information into a self-paced resource reduces time spent in the classroom.

Step Five
You will need to attend and complete a Classroom Training Session with one of our Master Instructors.

Once you have finished the process above, you will be eligible to purchase student materials from Rescue Training Institute and teach certified MEDIC FIRST AID Training Programs!
